Henry Beer
(b.1946-)

Henry BeerHenry Beer, co-founder of the design firm CommArts, has been a Boulder resident for thirty-six years. In addition to pursuing excellence in his professional life, Henry has been a lifelong watercolor painter. The Quick Draw is Henry’s first engagement that may result in the sale of his works in watercolor. His originals and giclee prints on watercolor paper are shared with his family along with a small group of fishing and hunting friends.

With a degree in Industrial Design and a practice that includes virtually every aspect of design from branding and identity projects to retail planning and design including the eponymous Pearl Street Mall, Henry uses his visual skills and his analytical abilities every day. It is interesting to note that these same tools are brought into use when visualizing and executing a picture. He finds painting to be another interesting means of inquiry into the world of form, ideas, the effect of color and philosophy.

Beer works using a method that incorporates plein air studies and studio work. Photography is used as a tool as well to capture and retain details that may require additional time beyond that spent in the field.

Henry has studied and is inspired by the work of Ogden Pliessner, William Matthews, Percy Grey, Hercules Brabizon, Richard Parkes Boddington, J S Sargent and William Russell Flint.  He is married to the violinist Anne Baldwin Beer and has two sons, Peter and James.
